Post Traumatic Stress Disorder / Trauma

While combat and related activities can be a source of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, any deeply distressing or disturbing experience can have the same effects.

Some causes of trauma can be domestic violence, sexual assault - including childhood sexual violence, natural disasters, servere illness or injury, the death of a loved one, or witnessing violence.

If you are struggling with some or all of the following symptoms, you may have PTSD:

  • Suddenly feeling like the stressful event is happening again.
  • Feeling upset when someone reminds you of the event.
  • Avoiding memories, thoughts or feelings related with the event.
  • Blaming yourself or someone else for the stressful experience.
  • Feeling distant or cut off from others.
  • Being "superalert" or watchful or on guard.
  • Trouble falling or staying asleep.
