Post Traumatic Stress Disorder / Trauma
While combat and related activities can be a source of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, any deeply distressing or disturbing experience can have the same effects.
Some causes of trauma can be domestic violence, sexual assault - including childhood sexual violence, natural disasters, servere illness or injury, the death of a loved one, or witnessing violence.
PTSD
If you are struggling with some or all of the following symptoms, you may have PTSD:
- Repeating disturbing and unwanted memories.
- Repeated distressing dreams.
- Suddenly feeling like the stressful event is happening again.
- Feeling upset when someone reminds you of the event.
- Avoiding memories, thoughts or feelings related with the event.
- Blaming yourself or someone else for the stressful experience.
- Feeling distant or cut off from others.
- Being "superalert" or watchful or on guard.
- Trouble falling or staying asleep.
